Baby cones – specifics and uses

Muslin rozek petrol Lifestyle 9

Infant cones, in the opinion of many parents, are a mandatory part of the first layette for a baby. Newborns, after leaving the warm as well as cozy belly of their mother, need to get used to their new surroundings. The sudden change can be shocking for them, so cones come to the rescue, which create similar conditions to which they have been accustomed for 9 months. Using them also helps in many other daily activities, such as feeding the baby.

What should a cone for a baby be like?

It’s best that the cone is made of the highest quality materials – certified, safe for baby’s skin, breathable and breathable. It is best to choose natural fabrics, without synthetic admixtures. Cotton or bamboo will be ideal. For winter, you can get a cone, the inner side of which will be made of soft velvet, pleasant to the touch. A baby wrapped in a cone should be free to raise its head on its own, which is why experts recommend models without stiffening, as it can hinder the comfortable positioning of both it and the whole figure. Natural for the baby in the first days of life is the embryonic position, and the additional padding in the cone may even make it impossible to assume it.
Depending on the model, we may be confronted with bow ties, fasteners and Velcro. Unfortunately, the latter lose their properties over time. The most common choice is the first mentioned – thanks to the binding, you can adjust the size and fit it to the height of the baby, thus providing better comfort for him, as well as for the parents. An infant cone is useful up to about 3 months of age.

Are the cone and the burp cloth the same thing?

When we talk about an infant cone, from the mouths of our grandmothers we may hear the term – a burp cloth. Although these are two different types of coverings, some people use the name interchangeably. Why? Because they were used for the same purpose. The main difference between them is the way of wrapping. The burp cloths were in the form of a long rectangle with fastenings on the side. They resembled sleeping bags in their construction. In contrast, cones usually have a square shape. The infant is laid across with its head to the corner. They are then wrapped with the other three corners of the material, one from the bottom and two from the side. Nowadays, cones have special fasteners that make it easier to tie the garment. Becigs were also much thicker than modern cones. This was due to the filling, which was mainly down or feathers. Unfortunately, they sometimes caused allergies. Modern cones, on the other hand, have fillings made of hypoallergenic and baby-safe materials.

Multifunctionality of infant cones

Conges create a tight, but safe and cozy space that provides a sense of closeness for the baby. This translates into his peaceful sleep. However, this is not their only use. The horn is a multifunctional product that will serve the baby for a long time. After unzipping and unfolding, it can be used as:

  • cradle for crib,
  • blanket for car seat, carrycot or stroller,
  • a changing mat,
  • a play mat,
  • a safety roll.

Today on the market, cones are available in a variety of shapes, colors, patterns and textures – from smooth squares to quilted in the shape of leaves. After the baby grows out of the wrapping period, we don’t have to get rid of them. In fact, the only limitation is our imagination. The horn can be used as a blanket to cover or to play with for many years. Very popular recently is to use it as a mat in children’s teepees. In addition, they insulate the toddler from the cold surface, so they will also work well as a foundation for lying down at home or even on the grass.

In summary, the horn will be perfect as a wrap, blanket or first bedding. It makes it easier to fall asleep, provides the baby with a sense of security, helps to calm down and does not restrict the movement of arms and legs. The newborn horn is a great help for new parents who are afraid to take their baby in their arms.
